Music Marketing Research and Planning
What's up friends! I have just began the Music Marketing Project! My group and I were randomly assigned a music genre and have to do develop a brand identity for a new artist we create, along with...a music video!!
Research💻
We recieved the pop music genre! First step was reseaching the genre and marketing trends. I chose to research artists a part of the Universal Music Group (UMG), specifically Lana Del Rey and Sabrina Carpenter. This research started with a brief history about how UMG and the music artists began and the marketing strategies both artists used.

For non-digital marketing techniques, I had to use news articles to discover collaborations with other companies and marketing stunts.
Fun Fact: both Lana Del Rey and Sabrina Carpenter used billboards as part of a marketing stunt to advertize their upcoming release.
Watching Lana and Sabrina's music videos helped me really grasp on what their brand is. Lana has a more vintage aesthetic while Sabrina has more of a retro aesthetic.
Planning🖉
We just began the planning process of developing our artist and their brand! Our teacher gave us 4 pop songs to chose from and we chose "We Are Young" by fun. This song is familiar to us and my group and I were easily starting to imagine a plan for the music video.
Now, we are brainstorming what brand we want to create and the image our artist will embody. We are currently discussing who our artist is and their background.
To imagine the planning process, we filled out a calendar that says how we will break down the work among the team and what we will work on during class. For the most part, we are working together on multiple parts, like editing and creating our presentation.
Once we are done building our artist and their brand, we are going to storyboard the music video that introduces them to the world.
So far, we had a blast planning and are so excited to see where our ideas lead us!
Look out for updates soon!😀
